Configuration

In order to set AnyDevice and Softphone Desktop into operation, various configuration steps are necessary. The following list will help you with the start-up.

  1. XPhone Call Controller
  2. Create SIP Trunk
    • System settings > Telephony & Meetings > Telephony > SIP: Configure a SIP trunk for AnyDevice/Softphone.

  3. Location Settings - AnyDevice
    • Location-specific settings can be made for AnyDevice.

    • For example, it can be configured here whether the user is allowed to configure telephone numbers for AnyDevice in the client.

  4. AnyDevice Wizard (in user administration)
  5. Make further XCC settings
    • Configuration and tips e.g. for quality of service, external media, payload separation, networked PBX systems, clip no screening and much more.

Hint

Be sure to note the options for the AnyDevice operating mode (in combination with CTI line or Only) in the Wizard in the user administration!

AnyDevice/softphone in combination with office phone

In order for AnyDevice/Softphone to be used in combination with a CTI terminal, a line must have been assigned to the user(s) (via connector, manually in the user profile or via setting in the PBX).

If the user wants to receive incoming calls on an AnyDevice or Softphone, the office phone is redirected via CTI either to a standardised phone number, or to a prefix plus own extension. In both cases, the routing in the PBX must be configured to point to the XCC.

Change from office phone to AnyDevice/Softphone

In the bottom right-hand corner of the XPhone Connect Client, Use device lists all devices (AnyDevice, Softphone Desktop, Softphone Mobile). Under Manage devices up to two additional numbers can be manually stored as AnyDevice numbers.

If you select a device in XPhone Client, whether AnyDevice, Softphone Desktop or Softphone Mobile, all incoming calls are automatically forwarded to the corresponding device (call forwarding of the office phone, if available). Here you will find the exact behaviour for incoming calls, depending on the device used:

Outgoing calls from the XPhone Client behave differently depending on the device used:

AnyDevice/Softphone Only

In the AnyDevice/Softphone Only operating scenario, there is no office line but only AnyDevices.

If a user is to receive AnyDevice/Softphone Only (i.e. without CTI line), a call number (line number) must be defined for this user. Usually, in this constellation, an entire number band (e.g. 4XX) is routed from the PBX to the XCC, from which the desired call number for the user must be selected. This call number is also the number of the AnyDevice line.

Create / provide AnyDevice/Softphone

Hint

In order for a user to get AnyDevice Only or AnyDevice in combination with CTI line, the AnyDevice Wizard must be executed in the user administration with the respective option (combination CTI line or Only).

Hint

Call forwarding for One Number service does not exist in this mode.

Additional CTI line

It is possible to add another CTI line to an AnyDevice Only user in the web administration. The additional line then appears to the user in the XPhone Connect Client as a separate device.

AnyDevice/CTI operation is possible in principle, but it is important to note that as soon as the CTI line is switched to, the AnyDevice Only Inbound case (incoming call to the AnyDevice) no longer works, i.e. only the additionally created line is called (only the fixed office telephone can be used) and this constellation is therefore possibly not recommended.

Switch AnyDevice/Softphone mode

AnyDevice can be used in the operating modes in combination with a CTI device or as a stand-alone line (only). To switch between the operating modes, proceed as described below.

Attention

Before you change the AnyDevice mode, the already existing function must always be removed first!

Remove AnyDevice/Softphone function

  1. In the XPhone Connect Server web administration, navigate to User management > Location and click on the User tab at the top.

  2. Select the required user(s) > More… > AnyDevice/Softphone configuration.

  3. Remove AnyDevice/Softphone Function > Next > Finish.

Set up new AnyDevice/Softphone function

Hint

Softphone is also regarded as an AnyDevice if AnyDevice is used as a generic term hereinafter.

In the Web Administration, navigate to User management > Location and click on the Users tab at the top.

  1. Select the user or users to set up the respective AnyDevice and Softphone function.

  2. Now click on AnyDevice/Softphone configuration at the top.

  3. The AnyDevice/Softphone wizard starts and shows the following pages:

Attention

For AnyDevice to be used in combination with a CTI terminal, a line must have been assigned to the user(s) (via connector, manually in the user profile or via setting in the PBX).

More settings

Pick-up/forwarding of calls to an AnyDevice/Softphone with Follow-Me call forwarding

If the office phone of an XPhone user rings, another XPhone user with activated AnyDevice/Softphone can pick up this call. (Redirect/Deflect function via call control interface e.g. TAPI/CSTA).

Tip

Depending on the PBX, this may not be possible. The following solution is available:

Fallback and drop

AnyDevice offers the option of advanced settings (Client > Configuration > Device management > Advanced…). There you can specify where calls are to be diverted in the event of being busy, not being available or ringing after a certain time. It is also possible to differentiate between internal and external calls. The following options are available for individual cases (differentiation between internal and external callers):

  • Call is not answered

    • Forwarding after seconds to nummer, voicemail [1]

  • Busy

  • Not operational

The following options are available for the above scenarios:
  • Reject

  • Call waiting

  • Phone number

  • Voicemail [1]

Hint

  • The settings that apply to “Busy” also take effect if the call cannot be transferred due to errors.

  • With the Windows Powershell these settings can also be preset centrally for the clients.

Hiding the Call Forwarding Features

If call forwarding features (call forwarding on busy or after time) do not work due to SIP Trunk incompatibilities, there is the option to hide these features on the client:

Clip-No-Screening

For an incoming AnyDevice call with call forwarding to XCC, the caller’s number can be displayed on the AnyDevice, just as the One-Number can be signalled to the called party for an outbound call.

The same applies to outgoing calls: the AnyDevice displays the number of the called party and the called party displays the One-Number of the AnyDevice user.

This requires that the feature CLIP-No-Screening is supported and set up.

Ring Back for Call Forwarding to XCC

Some PBXs do not allow ring back from external callers to the PSTN when using AnyDevice with Call Forwarding to XCC.

Attention

Payload Separation

If an XPhone user in the home office is connected to the company via a VPN connection and uses Softphone Desktop, it may make sense that the media data (audio stream) is not sent via the VPN connection but via the Internet. This can be achieved with payload separation.

Read this guide for setting up.

AnyDevice Forwarding to Voicemail

It may be that with some PBXs the redirecting ID is lost when transferring from the SIP Trunk from the XCC to the SIP Trunk to the XCAPI. This means that an AnyDevice call forwarding to the Global Voicemail Number does not work. For this case, the voicemail must be set up with prefix and extension (extension).

Hint

An example of this is the Unify OpenScape Business.
