AnyDevice
With AnyDevice, any phones can be integrated into the communication infrastructure - in the spirit of “Bring Your Own Device” (BYOD). This makes it possible for employees to use not only office phones, but also private or business mobile phones. They make phone calls in the home office or at customers’ premises. A significant part of the CTI service spectrum is available via the end devices without changing the operation of the software. The XPhone Connect system ensures a clear separation between private costs and company costs.
Employees can decide for themselves where they can best be reached: when they leave the office, they switch to their mobile device with one click and answer all incoming calls directly on their mobile phone. Once at home, AnyDevice can just as easily be switched to the home office connection.
Any telephone that can be reached via the telephone system or any dialable telephone number can be stored in XPhone Connect as a separate device. If a call is started via PC, the set device is called by XPhone Connect. If the employee answers the call there, the connection to the desired call partner is established. The connection is maintained via the own company and thus enables further telephony functions (see incoming calls and outgoing calls).
Hint
Also note already during planning that additional trunk channels as well as internal SIP channels of the PBX used may be required for these services.
For example, an external telephone call with an external AnyDevice requires two trunk channels and, when calling back to an external subscriber, three.
In order for a conference from an AnyDevice consultation call to work, the Office number must currently be stored in the master data in E164 format, e.g. +4989840798192.
Advantages and features
- Selection of any phones:
Use of any devices with full CTI control.
- CTI control:
Telephones used via AnyDevice can be conveniently controlled from the PC. Functions such as hang up, consultation, toggle and forwarding are also available here.
- Call status display:
Each call made with AnyDevice is displayed in the presence/telephone status display of a person (call status).
- Call logging:
All incoming and outgoing telephone calls made via AnyDevice are logged in the central journal.
- One-Number Function:
By activating AnyDevice, mobile calls can also be made via the office number. To do this, the mobile phone first establishes a connection with the mobile phone and then dials the desired number.
Hint
For AnyDevice to operate reliably, stably and with good voice quality, the network must be VoIP ready. We recommend separating or prioritising voice and data in the network.
Also note already during planning that additional trunk channels as well as internal SIP channels of the telephone system used may be required for this feature. For example, an external telephone call with an external AnyDevice requires two trunk channels and for a consultation call to an external subscriber three.
In the case of the integrated XCC, the resources of the XPhone Connect Server are shared by all services and programmes of the Windows server. A CPU / main memory utilisation of over 80% can cause impairments and quality losses of the XCC voice transmission (conference, AnyDevice, Follow-Me). By allocating additional CPU cores or RAM for the XPhone Connect Server, impairments can be reduced and additional participants can be supported.
In order for a conference from an AnyDevice consultation call to work, the Office number must currently be stored in the master data in E164 format, e.g. +4989840798192.
Attention
When the XPhone Connect Server is shut down, all active SIP calls on the XCC are disconnected and existing conferences are deleted.
Example of incoming telephone calls
With office telephone
As soon as a client activates the Follow-Me function, all calls are forwarded to the set telephone. The display of the telephone status is transmitted so that colleagues can see when the staff member is available or on a call. Via the CTI control via PC, the employee is as flexible as if he were in the office.
The connection from subscriber A to subscriber B is always established via the company and remains in place. This means that all functions (toggle, consultation, hold, etc.) are available, just as in the office. Only the extension number of the company is transmitted to the caller and not, for example, the mobile phone number.
A customer dials the call number of an employee. This call number is forwarded to the XPhone Call Controller by Call forwarding for One Number service. (CTI call forwarding). The PBX routes accordingly to the XCC.
The incoming call is signalled on Client 1.
The XCC knows the AnyDevice from Client 1 and calls it.
As soon as the call is answered at AnyDevice 1, the media (RTP streams) are switched together.
AnyDevice only (without office phone)
An external caller calls an internal extension, which is always routed to the XCC at the PBX. - In the standard case, it is a number band, e.g. +4989840987XXX.
The XCC knows the number of Client 2 and signals the call accordingly.
The XCC knows the AnyDevice from Client 2 and calls this.
As soon as the call is answered at the AnyDevice 2, the media (RTP streams) are switched together.
Example of outgoing telephone calls
If an employee wants to use a mobile phone in the home office, he sets this up in his XPhone Connect Client. If he now dials a number via the client, he immediately receives a call on his mobile phone. As soon as he answers the call there, he is connected to the desired call partner. Because the connection is held via the XPhone Call Controller, all CTI functions (consultation, toggling, conference, call transfer) are available to the employee. In addition, the telephone status is transmitted so that colleagues know when the employee is available or on a call.
Since the callback procedure is used, the employee does not incur any costs in his or her own country. The callback procedure is also normally advantageous when used in foreign mobile networks, as the roaming costs for incoming calls are usually cheaper than for outgoing calls.
Only the company phone number is displayed at the communication partner (One-Number).
One-Number Function
Thanks to AnyDevice, the office number is displayed for outgoing calls (Clip-No-Screening). The One-Number function is also available with the XPhone Connect Mobile App.
An outgoing AnyDevice call is initiated at XPhone Client 2.
The XCC builds the first call leg towards AnyDevice 2.
If the AnyDevice 2 has accepted the call, the XCC initiates the second call leg to the actual call destination (any external subscriber).
As soon as the call destination (any external subscriber) has accepted the call, the media (RTP streams) are switched together.
Line allocation
Depending on the scenario, a certain number of SIP and trunk channels are required in the telephone system.
Example of the use of AnyDevice by an employee in the home office:
2 SIP channels
2 channels to the ITSP
