Backup and restore

The XPhone Connect Backup Manager is installed along with the XPhone Connect Server and can be opened via the XPhone Connect Server Manager.

What requirements need to be complied with?

  1. On drive C:\ at least 10 GB must always be free after installation for the temporary backup files.

  2. The Backup Manager only works when an XPhone Connect Server with valid configuration is installed on the system.

What is saved with the Backup Manager?

The Backup Manager saves the following files from the XPhone Connect Server root directory:

Atlas.xml
AtlasExe.exe.config
AtlasService.exe.config
unitCore.config
atlasmng.exe.config
DialParamMng.exe.config
Webconfiguration\web.config
VDirWebClient\VDirWebClientwcf.config
ServerMng.exe.config
StartWebAdmin.exe.config
UserPresence.xml
AppLink\WebClient\endpoint.config
AppLink\WebClient\web.config
WebStats\web.config

Furthermore, the following sub-directories are backed up recursively:

AppLink\DashboardConfig
FaxCoverPages
MailServer\MailStore\Mailboxes
MailServer\Settings
MailTemplates
UMS\Fax2Mail
UMS\Mail2Fax
UMS\Cdr
UMS\PhoneAccess
VoiceMailAnnouncements
VoiceMailPersonalGreetings
VoiceMailWorkflows
Licenses

The following SQL data bases are saved (if available):

XPDATA
XPSTATS
XPSTATSRAW

What needs to be observed during backup?

  • At least 10 GB of free memory must be available on drive C:\.

  • The Backup Manager always reads the information for backup and restore from the current atlas.xml from the installation directory. If the restore is to be made to another database, this must be adjusted in the atlas.xml beforehand.

  • The configuration file must be up to date (important if e.g. something was installed later or e.g. the atlas.xml was changed).

What must be considered during recovery?

  • The installation mode of the installed XPhone Connect Server must match the operating mode of the backed-up XPhone Connect Server.

  • The version of the installed XPhone Connect Server should match the version of the backed up XPhone Connect Server.

  • The Backup Manager always reads the information for backup and restore from the current atlas.xml from the installation directory. If the restore is to be made to another database, this must be adjusted in the atlas.xml beforehand.

  • If the target database for the restore does not exist, XPhone Connect Server must be started once. This may be necessary, for example, when moving to a new server on which XPhone Connect Server was installed but never started.

  • At least 10 GB of free memory must be available on drive C:\.

How exactly does backup take place?

  1. A configuration file is created the first time the backup tool is started. It stores information such as the installation directory, data base names, SQL connection etc. This file is only created if a configuration file does not yet exist.

  2. If the installation directory, data base names or SQL access to the XPhone Connect Server change or if a feature is installed subsequently, the configuration file can be deleted and the backup tool rebooted. This ensures that all information in the configuration file is correct and up to date.

  3. The configuration file is created under C:\ProgramData\C4B\Backup\cfg by default and is called XphoneServerBackup.xml.

Manual backup

  1. First of all, select the directory in which the backup is to be saved.

  2. Manual backup is triggered by clicking New backup.

  3. A brief description of the backup can be provided in the field under the New backup button.

  4. Once backup is started, the files are saved in the file system first, followed by backups of registration entries and finally, the SQL data bases.

  5. The backed up data is packed into a Zip archive. This Zip archive is moved into the selected backup directory.

  6. The user by whom the backup tool was started must have the corresponding rights to the file system.

Automatic backup

  1. An automatic backup involves the task of starting the backup process at the configured time being generated in the Windows task planner.

  2. The user account under which this task runs must have the corresponding rights in the file system.

  3. Notification can also be set which provides information in the form of an e-mail report after the automatic backup process.

  4. Backup generations refer to the maximum number of backups allowed in the backup folder. If this value is exceeded, the oldest backup in this folder is deleted.

How exactly does recovery take place?

  1. Recovery must be accompanied by administrator rights.

  2. A backup is recovered by selecting the respective backup to be recovered from the list of backups.

  3. The Restore button initiates recovery.

  4. All (!) XPhone Connect Server services are closed.

  5. The Zip archive containing the backup files is copied into a temporary working directory where it is unpacked.

  6. The SQL data bases are recovered first, followed by the data in the file system and finally the backed up registration entries.

  7. If the XPhone Connect Server services were started before commencing recovery, they will be started again after recovery.
