Domino Server

Configure SMTP routing to UM services

In order to be able to forward fax and SMS documents to the corresponding XPhone Connect services with Notes / Domino, mail routing via SMTP must be set up correctly.

Activate SMTP listener task

First enable the SMTP listener task:

  1. In Domino Administrator, click the Configuration tab and expand the Server - All Server Documents section.

  2. Select the server document you want to edit, and then click Edit Server.

    • Fully qualified domain name

Full combined host name and domain name of the computer, including the top-level domain. In the smtp.xp.com example, smtp is the host name, xp is the second-level domain, and .com is the top-level domain. If a global domain document is missing, Router uses the entry in this field to determine the local Internet domain.

Normally, the fully qualified host name is added to the server document during server configuration or by the administration process (AdminP). A routing loop may occur if there is no valid entry in this field.

    • SMTP listener task

      Entere here Enabled.

      01_smtp-listener

  3. Click on the Connections - Internet Connections - Mail tab.

  4. Make sure that Activated is selected as the TCP/IP port status in the Mail (SMTP Inbound) column, and then click Save and Close.

Create/modify configurationdocument

You make these entries to instruct the Domino server to send the SMTP-based fax and SMS messages.

  1. From the Domino Administrator, click the Configuration tab and expand the Server or Messages section.

  2. Click Configuration.

  3. If there is no configuration document yet:

    1. Click Add configuration.

    2. Click tab Basics.

    3. Enter values in the following fields, and then click Save and Close.

      • Use these settings as default for all servers

Select the Yes checkbox if you want this document to serve as the default configuration document for all Domino servers in the Domino domain. If you have created additional configuration documents for specific servers or server groups in the Domino directory, the corresponding settings in the documents take precedence over the settings of the default configuration document.

      • Group or server name

Enter the name of the server or server group to which this configuration document should be assigned.

  4. If there is no configuration document yet:

    1. Select the configuration document you want to edit, and then click Edit Configuration.

    2. Click the Router/SMTP - General tab.

    3. Enable the SMTP used when sending messages outside of the local internet domain option to transfer mail to the fax or SMS service via SMTP.

    4. Then save the document.

Configure X-header

In addition, you configure the so-called X-Headers, via which the fax or SMS service recognizes the settings of the messages.

Configure the advanced options for outgoing MIME messages to enter the X headers. This list of fields is absolutely required for fax and SMS service to recognize the messages correctly. Be sure to pay attention to the spelling.

  1. Select the configuration document you want to edit, and then click Edit Configuration.

  2. Click the MIME - Advanced - Advanced options for outgoing messages tab.

  3. Enter values in the following fields, and then click Save & Close.

Important

The changes will take effect after the next router configuration update. For the new setting to take effect immediately, reload the routing configuration by entering the following command at the server console: Tell Router Update Config

Always send the following Notes elements in headers:

C4BDateUTC
C4BTimeUTC
C4BDeliverOptions
C4BHeadline
C4BFaxNumber
C4BMessageClass
C4BFaxCopyConfSuccess
C4BFaxCopyConfFailed
C4BConfSuccess
C4BConfFailed
C4BCoverPageGuid
C4BRecipients
C4BCoverSenderNumber
C4BSenderNumber

Create documents for foreign SMTP domains

In order to inform the Domino server of the fax or SMS domain, set up two external SMTP domains.

  1. In the Domino Administrator, click the Configuration tab and expand the Messages section.

  2. Select Domains and then click Add Domain.

  3. On the General tab, make an entry in the following field:

    Domain Type: Foreign SMTP domain

    04_smtp-domain_1

  4. Click on the tab Routing.

  5. Enter the appropriate values in the fields provided, then click Save & Close.

    • Messages to this address - Internet domain Enter your SMTP domain for sending faxes here, e.g. fax.company.com, which you have also entered as the address space in the XPhone server under (System settings > UM > Fax > General).

The same applies for sending SMS (System settings > UM > SMS > General).

    • Shall be transmitted to - Domain name A fictitious, logical domain name, e.g. FAX, to which messages corresponding to the domain in the Internet domain field are forwarded. The name specified here serves as a placeholder. Domino uses the name to map the document for the foreign SMTP domain to a connection document that you create in the next step.

Create SMTP connection documents

To tell the Domino server how to reach the fictitious domains specified in the previous step, create two SMTP connection documents. To do this, perform the steps mentioned in the following.

  1. From the Domino Administrator, click the Configuration tab and expand the Messages section.

  2. Click on Connections and then on Add connection.

  3. On the General tab, make entries in the following fields and then save the document:

    1. Connection type: SMTP

    2. Source server: Your domino server for the transmission of the faxes and SMS messages

    3. Connect via: Select one of the following values:

      • Direct Connection - For servers communicating over LAN connections

      • Dial-up connections - For servers connected via dial-up connections, e.g. B. telephone lines communicate. If you choose this option, Domino displays the With connection entry field.

      • With connection entry (only if you have specified dial-up connection)

Specifies the dial-up network connection document that contains the connection settings for the SMTP server specified in the Source Server field.

      • Target server

A unique, fictitious placeholder, such as FAXServer. Domino does not use the value in this field, but the connection document works only if the field contains a value. The name specified must not correspond to any server name on the network.

      • Target domain

The fictitious, logical domain name specified in the Internet domain field in the corresponding document for foreign SMTP domains (see previous step). So enter FAX here again, for example. The name in this field links this SMTP connection document to the foreign SMTP domains document.

      • SMTP-MTA-Relais-Host

The IP address of the fax service -> See XPhone Server System settings > UM > Fax > General > IP address fax service. You can enter the IP address here with or without square brackets, e.g. [172.16.1.92]

    06_verbindungsdokumente_1

  4. On the Replication/Routing tab, enter values in the following fields:

    • Replication function: Deactivated

    • Routing function

Select the mail routing. Because the same routing function is responsible for transferring messages via NRPC and SMTP, you do not need to specify SMTP routing. For the source server, SMTP routing must be enabled in the server document, otherwise Router discards the information in the SMTP connection document.

    • Immediate routing if n messages are waiting

The number of pending messages that will force routing. The default is 5. If you want faxes to be sent immediately, enter 1 here.

      07_verbindungsdokumente_2

  5. Repeat for your SMTP domain for sending SMS

    • Enter e.g. SMSServer as the target server

    • Enter the logical domain name specified in the previous step as the target domain, in the example SMS.

    • As SMTP MTA relay host enter the IP address of the SMS service, see System settings > UM > SMS > General > IP address SMS service.
