Microsoft SQL Server

By default, the XPhone Connect Server is operated with a local Microsoft SQL Server Express Server. The XPhone Connect Server installation offers this Microsoft SQL Express Server for installation. All Microsoft SQL Servers can be operated locally on the XPhone Server, or with remote connection.

Attention

From 500 XPhone Connect users (or from 250 users when using TeamDesk and Direct Calls) we strongly recommend the use of a Microsoft SQL Standard/Enterprise Edition.

Number of contacts in the XPhone Connect Directory

The table shows the approximate number of storable contacts in comparison between Express and Standard/Enterprise edition of the SQL server. For the Express edition, the maximum size of the index table is assumed to be about 10 GB.

The following sections refer to the local Microsoft SQL Express Server.

Limitations

  • Database engine: 1 mainboard socket and max. 4 CPU cores.

  • Maximum 1 GB RAM data cache per instance (occupies about 2 GB RAM).

  • Maximum database size: 10 GB (data file size).

  • Maximum 50 instances per server.

  • Suitable for up to 500 users

  • Maximum contacts connected to the directory: approx. 250,000 - 3,000,000. However, this number serves only as a rough guideline and varies with the size of the actual contacts or the database type.

  • Die Begrenzung auf 1 GB Memory reduziert die Leistungsfähigkeit der Datenbank mit zunehmender Größe der Datenbank. Kompensiert werden kann dies durch möglichst schnelle Festplatten, z.B. durch SSDs. Ob die Leistungsfähigkeit der Datenbank ausreicht, hängt stark von der Anzahl der Benutzer und deren Suchverhalten und von der Größe der angeschlossenen Datenquellen ab. Unkritisch im Sinne der Datenbank ist die Anbindung der Datenquellen ETV und Telefonbuch Deutschland.

  • The SQL Express edition supplied is limited to the use of one physical CPU. Therefore, the cores necessary for the use of the directory must be available on a single physical CPU. If the Connect Server is used in a virtualized environment, this must also be configured so that the available cores are available in a single CPU from the perspective of the guest operating system.

Storage period

Call Journal

The storage period of the journal refers to the above-mentioned load profile and is based on the assumed size of the journal table of about 4 GB (40% of the available database size). Per record an average of 3 to 4.5 Kbytes should be estimated.

When using the customer’s own Microsoft SQL server instances, the responsibility for use and configuration lies with the respective database system administrator and not with the XPhone Connect software manufacturer C4B or the XPhone Connect partner.
