Lines

Hint

Watch our video tutorial: Configuration CTI.

The list under Lines contains all lines of all connected CTI and SIP gateways. This is a pool of lines that can be made available to users or have already been assigned. However, the user assignment is done in the properties of the respective user or via a connector. The simplest case is the 1:1 assignment between a line and a user.

You can manually create a single line or have lines created for entire phone number ranges. To create individual lines, click New Line in the header. The Create new line dialog opens.

Line conditions

A symbol on the left of each line provides information about the status of the respective line:

  • lines1 The line is operational and in use.

  • lines2 Line is not fully operational (e.g., missing user authentication with DeutschlandLAN Cloud PBX). [2]

  • lines3 Line is not or only limited in service due to an error (e.g. AnyDevice line without SIP registration does not support softphone). [1]

  • lines4 Line is not in service or is only in service to a limited extent (e.g. device unplugged/deregistered).

  • lines5 Line is out of service due to a failure. [1]

  • lines6 Line is in service but not in use.

  • lines7 Unused dynamic line (ConsoleIdentfication parameter is configured).

  • lines8 PBX node is disabled by administration. [3]

  • lines9 Line is disabled by administration. [3]

  • lines10 Status unknown (e.g. not yet assigned to a user).

If you move the mouse pointer over the icons, you will get the status messages listed above in the tooltip. In case of an error it gives further information about the line status. Possible tooltip error messages are for example:

  • Telephone number does not exist.

  • No line available for the telephone number.

  • The telephone number is no longer active.

  • etc.

Creating / editing

A line consists of various factors that can be set here.

Line data

  • Name
    • You can enter any name for the line.

  • Telephone gateway
  • Dialing parameter
    • Select the Dialing parameter using the drop-down list. Usually the setting Obtain dialing parameter from PBX is selected here. In this case the assignment is based on the PBX setting. A different selection is only necessary if the PBX uses multiple trunk heads.

  • Parameter set (telephony gateway)

  • Phone number
    • This corresponds to the complete phone number under which the line can be reached. Country code, area code and main phone number are already defined by the dialing parameter, so that only the entry of the extension number is required.

  • Deactivated
    • If desired, you can set an individual line to disabled here.

Advanced settings

The advanced settings are optional and only required in special cases. As a rule, they are intended for product support only. If desired or if your specific company structure requires it, depending on the PBX type (providing the line), the following additional parameters can be specified via Add.

EnableAgent

Activate agent features (log on/off from ACD, agent status) on the line. In the respective XPhone Connect Client, the ACD control appears in the presence control menu.

Note: The PBX must support the feature. The system load of the PBX is increased after activation.

Delete

You can delete a line by highlighting the respective line or selecting it with the check box checkbox. Then click Delete in the header and confirm. If you want to delete several lines at the same time, select the check boxes of the respective entries and click Delete in the header. If you confirm, the selected lines will be removed.

Line diagnostics

If you require more detailed information on the status of a line, you can run the diagnostics. To do this, select the check box next to the line in the List of lines and click Diagnostics. The Line diagnostics window displays detailed messages which can be useful during troubleshooting. Click Test line to start the diagnostics or Update status to update the information in the status window.

A line can be re-initialised by clicking Re-start line. You can view the initialisation log in the status window of the line diagnostics.

Dynamic lines

When dynamic lines are configured, users are automatically given the line assigned to their current workstation. If a user logs on at a different workstation, the XPhone Connect Client transfers the workstation ID to the XPhone Connect Server which automatically allocates the appropriate line to the user.

The user is not able or required to configure anything manually, which also helps to prevent misuse. User journalling is only active as long as the user is actually logged on. In other words, there is no offline journal, which would be a problem with hot desking.

The following configuration settings must be made so that lines can be allocated dynamically:

  1. Under System settings > Telephony & Meetings > Telephony > Lines > Line object in the Advanced settings section you can select the ConsoleIdentification parameter and enter the value of the %COMPUTERNAME% system variable.

  2. In the user settings, go to Telephony and select the dynamic option for the Phone number from the drop down list. This means that the line will no longer be allocated statically.

  3. If users are created by an Active Directory connector, the Only if the user is newly created option should be activated here. If a text connector is used to create a user, the value true or 1 must be set in the LineTypeDynamic column in the text file.

This method can also be used for Terminal Server / Citrix environments. When using a terminal server, the system variable %CLIENTNAME% is automatically used to evaluate the respective %COMPUTERNAME% logged in.

Hint

TeamDesk is not enabled in conjunction with dynamic line mapping. TeamDesk requires static AnyDevice lines, which cannot be created when using dynamic line mapping.

Line use

If you wish to see the user to whom the line is currently assigned:

  1. Mark* the check box next to the line and click Use in the List of lines window.

  2. In the Line use window, you will see the user(s) using this line.

  3. Clicking Go to user takes you to the Change user window, where you can directly make changes to the user properties, if desired.
