Satellites

A satellite is a virtual machine with Linux as the operating system. The XCC can be outsourced to the satellite to take load off the XPhone Connect server.

Tip

The following buttons can be found under System settings > Telephony & Meetings > Satellites

States

You can see the satellite connection status in the list overview:

status-grey Assigned

The satellite has been assigned to an XPhone server. The XCC components have not been started.

activityindicator UpdatingComponents

The XCC components are currently being installed or updated. This may take 5-15 minutes depending on network load.

status-yellow WaitingForConnect

XPhone server is trying to contact the XCC. They may not see this status because it only lasts for a short time.

status-green Running

The XCC is running.

Hint

The displayed state on the page updates itself.

New satellite

  1. Navigate to: System settings > Telephony & Meetings > Satellites

  2. Click on the New Satellite button.

  3. The Create new satellite dialog box opens. Enter the following values:

    • Name

      Choose a unique name for the satellite.

    • IP

      Enter the IP address of the satellite. This can be read from the console.

    • Root password

      Enter a root password for the satellite’s Debian operating system.

      Caution

      • In the factory default state, the password is A1111!.

      • Remember the root password. C4B does not know your root password for security reasons.

  4. Save your configuration.

Edit

Click on the name of the satellite under System settings > Telephony & Meetings > Satellites in the list view - the XCC Satellite dialog box opens.

Alternatively, you can select the satellite object in the list view and click the Edit button in the menu bar.

You can change the following values in the dialog box:

  • Name

    Choose a unique name for the satellite.

  • IP

    Enter the IP address of the satellite. This can be read from the console.

  • Description

    Enter a root password for the satellite’s Debian operating system.

  • Activate monitoring

    Activating the checkbox causes the perfmon counters of the satellite to be written to CSV files on the satellite. These can be displayed with the Log files or downloaded from the satellite.

  • NTP Server

    The configured NTP server is displayed here. You configure/change the NTP via the Satellite console tool.

  • Status

    The current Satellite status is displayed here.

Display log files

In the list view, select the satellite object and click the Show log files button in the menu bar.

A new browser window will open from which you can perform the following interactions:

  • Select and display log file.

  • Update log.

  • Download log.

  • Clear log.

Start

With this button you start the satellite. During startup, the installation packages, if any, are updated.

In the list view, select the satellite object and click the Start button in the menu bar.

Stop

In the list view, select the satellite object and click the Stop button in the menu bar. This stops the XCC on the Linux satellite. However, the Linux operating system continues to run.

Remove

In the list view, select the satellite object and click the Remove button in the menu bar.

Caution

It is only possible to delete the satellite if it is not currently being used by the XCC - XPhone Call Controller (XCC). Otherwise, a corresponding error message appears.
