Technical terms#
License request code#
As part of your order, you have received an e-mail containing the license certificate PDF document. In this document you will find the license request code that you need to retrieve the licenses and bind them to an XPhone server.
Hardware ID#
The hardware ID is a hash representation of selected parameters of your system. If you change the hardware of your computer (e.g. the Mac address), you must perform a License Rehosting.
You can read the hardware ID during the initial setup using Initial setup wizard. However, this initial setup wizard only appears once. After the initial setup, you can determine the hardware ID in the Web-Administration under System settings > Licenses > License management and then via the Import license package button.
Hint
The MAC address of the virtual machines on which the XPhone Server is running should be set statically, as otherwise the licence may become invalid and users may lose their client access if the MAC address and thus the hardware ID of the server changes when the VM is moved or migrated within the hypervisor.
System ID (X-ID)#
The system ID (X-ID) is a unique XPhone identifier that is superior to the hardware ID. It identifies the XPhone system uniquely and independently of hardware changes.
MAC address#
If you want to upgrade C4B products such as XPhone UC, XPhone Virtual Directory, XPhone Essentials or Octopus Desk, which are at the end of their life cycle (end-of-life), to XPhone Connect, you will need the MAC address (physical address) of your current system.
Determine the MAC address:
Open the command line on your system.
For example, press the key combination Windows + R, enter
cmdand confirm with Enter.Enter the following command in the command line:
ipconfig /all
Make a note of the MAC address (physical address) displayed in the output. - This address is required to link your new licenses to your existing system.
Important
The license upgrade cannot be carried out without this assignment.
Assignment#
Licenses are assigned to a user as soon as the corresponding function is configured for them, regardless of whether this user actually logs on to the system. The location configuration (user administration) indicates which licenses are required in each case.
Users who do not currently require a license can be moved to a configuration group in which the corresponding functions are deactivated. Please note that any personal settings will be deleted and the deactivated functions will no longer be available, such as fax reception or voicemail box.
Insufficient licensing#
If there are fewer licenses than required, the user-related licenses are distributed according to a defined scheme so that you can be sure that after a system restart, the licenses are reassigned to the same users as before the restart.
In the user overview (XPhone Connect Server > User administration > Location or Configuration group), you will then see a warning symbol
in the column * for the corresponding users if they do not have sufficient licenses.
If you move the mouse over the warning symbol
, the missing license(s) for the user will be displayed.
