Apple iOS#

Add iOS as a client interface to XPhone Connect Directory and access your contact data from your iPhone or iPad. The iOS supports the XPhone Connect Directory connection via LDAP. The client interface provided with XPhone Connect Directory is specially co-ordinated to the LDAP attributes of XPhone Connect Directory with the result that you can easily link the telephone with iOS.

Hint

Older versions of iOS operating system do not support LDAP. If you are using an older version of the iOS operating system, update your telephone’s operating system.

Configuration#

  • Open the configuration interface of the XPhone Connect Directory.

  • Click on Add client interface.

  • Select the client interface type Apple iOS.

  • Click on the Next button.

  • Carry out the steps in the dialog:

  1. Configure the Overview

  2. Configure IP & Port

    Attention

It is not possible to select a port of your choice for LDAP connections when using iOS version 3.0. iOS version 3.0 always uses port 389. Therefore, this port is preset in the Apple iOS client interface in XPhone Connect Directory.

  3. Configure the Authentification

  4. Configure Security

  5. Configure the Search

  6. Configure the Phone number conversion

  7. Configure the Restricting the number of hits

  8. Configure the Overview

  9. Configure the VPN connection

Set up a VPN connection on Apple iOS

If you wish to use Apple iOS as a client interface, use a VPN tunnel for accessing your data for security reasons. Access to the contact data without a VPN tunnel represents a security risk as all data is transferred uncoded.

How to set up a new VPN configuration on Apple iOS:

    1. Select Settings > General > Network > VPN > Add VPN.

    2. Enter the VPN settings in accordance with the infrastructure in your company.

Set up XPhone Connect Directory as an address book:

To add XPhone Connect Directory as an address book to Apple iOS, you must set up a new LDAP connection on Apple iOS.

    1. Select Settings > Mail, Contacts, Calendar > Add account > Other > Add LDAP account.

    2. In the dialogue LDAP, enter the settings for XPhone Connect Server.

    3. In the Server field, enter the name of the XPhone Connect Server or the IP address set in the client interface.

    4. In the User name field, enter the user name to login.

Provide at least the user name. If you do not provide a user name, you can not search the XPhone Connect Directory contacts at a later date. Depending on the client interface configuration, enter one of the following user names here:

      • Your user name from the Active Directory

      • Your user name for XPhone Connect Server

      • the user name entered in the client interface

    5. Enter the corresponding password in the Password field.

You can leave this field blank. You will be requested to provide a password if you wish to search in the XPhone Connect Directory.

    6. In the Description field, enter a name for the address book and select Next.

    7. If the following message appears:

Verbindung über SSL unmöglich. Möchten Sie versuchen, den Account ohne SSL einzurichten?

    …select Continue.

    1. To add the LDAP connection under iOS, select Save. If the following message appears:

Eventuell können Sie mit diesem Account keine Kontakte suchen. Möchten Sie wirklich sichern?

    …select Save.

    1. Check the LDAP connection you have created and deactivate the Use SSL field if necessary. The current version of XPhone Connect Directory only supports normal LDAP connections and not secure LDAP connections (LDAPS). You have set up a new LDAP connection for the XPhone Connect Directory address book. Specify the search settings for the address book. Without search settings, no results are displayed for a search.

    2. Open the new account.

    3. Select Add search settings.

    4. Enter the area to be searched through in the Search area field, e.g. vdir=VDir. We recommend searching the entire XPhone Connect Directory as the default setting. You can however limit the search area by specifically searching for an individual data source via LDAP syntax.

    5. Enter a description of your search diagram in the Description field.

    6. Select Subtree as the search area. You have set up the search settings for the XPhone Connect Directory address book.

Search contacts in XPhone Connect Directory with iOS:

    1. Activate the VPN connection before searching in the XPhone Connect Directory contacts.
      • Select Settings - VPN.

      • Activate VPN. The VPN symbol appears in the iPhone title bar.

    2. You can call the contacts in XPhone Connect Directory version via the Apple iOS address book.

    3. Select Telephone.

    4. Select the Groups button in the All contacts dialogue.

    5. In the Groups dialogue, select the new LDAP connection.

    6. Enter the name of the contact whose contact data you are searching for. The Apple iOS address book searches the contacts from XPhone Connect Directory.
